Alissa Vega brings a rare combination of judicial, prosecutorial, and employment law expertise to National Security Law Firm, having served as an adjudicating judge at two different federal agencies over the course of her career. A graduate of Brooklyn Law School, Alissa is admitted to practice before the State of New York, the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and multiple federal district courts. She currently also serves as an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate in the United States Air Force Reserve and as an Adjunct Law Professor at George Washington University, where she teaches moot court appellate advocacy — experience that reflects both her deep subject-matter knowledge and her skill in training the next generation of litigators.
Alissa’s judicial career began at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, where she served as an Administrative Judge in the EEOC’s Washington Field Office, adjudicating claims of discrimination under Title VII and other federal civil rights laws, overseeing record development, and ruling on motions and evidentiary disputes. She went on to become Director of the EEOC’s Appellate Review Division, supervising a team of attorneys, reviewing draft appellate decisions, and analyzing complex petitions for review of MSPB decisions — including matters of first impression. Under her leadership, the division instituted new performance goals and streamlined processes that drove a 70% year-over-year increase in case closures. This foundation as an EEO judge and appellate leader gives Alissa a rare, firsthand understanding of how federal employment discrimination claims are actually adjudicated, from the hearing level through final appellate review.
Alissa has continued to build on this employment law expertise throughout her career. As an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate with the Air Force Reserve, she currently serves in the Federal Litigation Section’s Labor & Employment Law practice, coordinating and leading employment litigation on behalf of the Air Force, and is recognized as a subject matter expert in Title VII, the Equal Pay Act, the ADEA, the ADA, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, USERRA, SCRA, and EEOC and MSPB policies and procedures. She has also served multiple tours as Chief of Civil Law at base legal offices, providing legal assistance to an eligible population of over 120,000 service members, veterans, and dependents. Since 2022, she has served as an Administrative Appeals Judge with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, adjudicating appellate decisions before the Medicare Appeals Council on benefits eligibility under the Social Security Act — a second federal judgeship that speaks to the breadth and rigor of her adjudicative experience.
Earlier in her career, Alissa served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Office of the Kings County District Attorney, prosecuting felony cases and drafting thousands of search warrants as part of the Major Narcotics Investigation Bureau, and as Assistant Inspector General with the New York City Department of Investigation, leading multi-agency task force investigations into healthcare fraud and abuse. This diverse background in criminal prosecution, complex investigations, and — above all — federal employment law and judicial adjudication makes Alissa uniquely equipped to guide NSLF’s military, federal, and civilian clients through even the most complex employment and administrative matters they face.
