Military Law & Federal Defense Attorney
Former Assistant United States Attorney, Federal Judge, Federal Public Defender, Military Judge, and Army Judge Advocate
Few attorneys have served as a federal prosecutor, federal judge, federal public defender, military judge, military defense counsel, and military prosecutor. Robert Fellrath has done all six.
Over the course of more than twenty-five years, Robert has evaluated, prosecuted, defended, and adjudicated complex matters in both the federal and military justice systems. His experience gives clients a rare understanding of how government investigations are conducted, how prosecutors make charging decisions, how judges evaluate evidence, and how legal outcomes are ultimately determined.
As an Assistant United States Attorney with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tucson, Arizona, Robert handled major narcotics trafficking, organized crime, electronic surveillance, and asset forfeiture investigations, including matters involving highly sensitive law enforcement and national security concerns. He later served as an Immigration Judge for the Executive Office for Immigration Review, where he presided over adversarial proceedings and made decisions affecting the lives, careers, and futures of individuals appearing before the federal government.
Robert also served as an Assistant Federal Public Defender, representing individuals facing serious federal criminal allegations. Having worked on both sides of the courtroom, he understands how federal cases are investigated, charged, defended, negotiated, and resolved. This perspective allows him to identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities that may not be apparent to attorneys who have spent their careers on only one side of the process.
In addition to his civilian federal service, Robert retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. During his military career, he served as a Military Judge, Senior Defense Counsel, Special Assistant United States Attorney, and military prosecutor, handling contested felony trials and complex military justice matters throughout the United States and Europe.
Robert’s experience gives clients a unique advantage because he understands how government decision-makers think. Having served as a prosecutor, defense attorney, and judge, he understands the factors that influence investigations, charging decisions, credibility determinations, courtroom strategy, and case outcomes. His insight allows him to help clients navigate some of the most complex military, federal, and national security matters they will ever face.
Today, Robert represents service members, veterans, federal employees, contractors, and private individuals facing military justice matters, federal investigations, white collar allegations, administrative actions, security-related concerns, and other high-stakes matters involving government decision-making.
