Katherine O'Brien PartnerKatherine O’Brien is both the owner and operator of Katherine O’Brien Law and a partner at the National Security Law Firm (NSLF), where she works alongside her husband, Brett O’Brien. As a military spouse who frequently relocated, Katherine founded her own virtual law firm to continue serving clients while navigating the challenges of military life.

At NSLF, Katherine plays a pivotal role not just as a partner but as the driving force behind the firm’s strategic vision. She is responsible for adding new practice areas, navigating the ever-changing legal landscape, and providing essential direction in business development. Katherine’s ability to anticipate legal trends and adapt to market demands has positioned NSLF as one of the fastest-growing military law firms in the nation.

Her extensive legal background includes experience in private practice, where she handled a variety of state criminal and civil cases in New Jersey and New York, including criminal defense, medical malpractice, personal injury, and commercial litigation. She has also developed a significant appellate practice in both state and federal courts, further enhancing her legal expertise.

Katherine earned her law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 2011. While in law school, she completed a judicial externship with the Honorable Deborah L. Cook of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She consistently made the Dean’s List, received a merit scholarship, and was awarded the CALI award for top grades in contract drafting and her student note.

Additionally, Katherine was selected as an Honors Legal Writing Fellow, where she helped first-year law students develop their legal research, analysis, and writing skills. Leveraging her strong background in online marketing, Katherine has been instrumental in driving NSLF’s growth and strategic planning. Her innovative and creative approach, coupled with her ability to foresee and respond to legal trends, ensures that NSLF remains at the forefront of the legal industry.

Outside of her legal practice, Katherine enjoys reading, traveling, and spending quality time with her family. Her passion for helping others and her dedication to her clients’ success make her a standout leader at NSLF and a true advocate for second chances.
